വപ്നമായിത്തന്നെ അവശേഷിച്ചു.
എഴുപതുകളുടെ ഉത്തരാർദ്ധത്തിൽ പാർപ്പിട പ്രശ്നത്തിന് ശാശ്വത പരിഹാരം തേടി ഊർജ്ജസ്വലരും, ഭാവനാസമ്പന്നരുമായ ഒരുകൂട്ടം ജീവനക്കാർ മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങുകയും അത് ഹൗസിംഗ് സൊസൈറ്റി എന്ന ആശയത്തിന് ബീജാവാപമായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തു. ചില സങ്കുചിതമായ താൽപര്യങ്ങൾ വഴിമുടക്കിയെങ്കിലും നേതൃത്വത്തിന്റെ ഇച്ഛാശക്തി ഒന്നുകൊണ്ട് മാത്രം എതിർപ്പുകളെയും, പ്രതിബന്ധങ്ങളെയും തരണം ചെയ്തു.
1979 സെപ്റ്റംബർ മാസം 19 -ാം തീയതി 30 പേർ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന പ്രമോട്ടിങ് കമ്മിറ്റി യോഗം ചേർന്നു. സെപ്റ്റംബർ മാസം 20-ാം തീയതി 26 അംഗങ്ങൾ പങ്കെടുത്ത ആദ്യ പൊതുയോഗത്തിൽ വച്ച് ശ്രീ.ടി.പി.വാസുദേവൻ നായരെ പ്രസിഡന്റായും, ശ്രീ കെ.എസ്. ശിവരാജനെ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റായും, ശ്രീ.പി.എൻ.കണ്ണപ്പനെ സെക്രട്ടറിയുമായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. ഡയറക്ടർ ബോർഡിൽ ആകെ 11 അംഗങ്ങളും, പ്രവർത്തനമൂലധനം 5 ലക്ഷം രൂപയും, ആകെ 250 അംഗങ്ങളും, റിക്കാർഡ് സൂക്ഷിക്കാൻ പൊതുഭരണ വകുപ്പിലെ ഒരു അലമാരയും മാത്രമുണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂവെങ്കിലും നിശ്ചയദാർഢ്യവും, മനക്കരുത്തും കൈമുതലായുണ്ടായിരുന്ന നേതൃത്വം തളരാൻ തായ്യാറായിരുന്നില്ല. ബാലാരിഷ്ടതകൾ താണ്ടി സംഘം അനുദിനം വളർന്നു.
ഭവനനിർമ്മാണത്തിന് പ്രധാന വിലങ്ങുതടിയായിരുന്നത് ഭൂമിയുടെ വിലയായിരുന്നു. അതിന് പരിഹാരമായി, ഹൗസിങ് കോളനി എന്ന കൂട്ടായ്മയുടെ ആശയം രൂപം കൊള്ളുകയും, മൊത്തമായി ഭൂമി വാങ്ങി ആവശ്യക്കാരായ അംഗങ്ങൾക്ക് വിതരണം ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രക്രിയയ്ക്ക് സംഘം തുടക്കമിടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
1982ൽ അമ്പലത്തറയിൽ സംഘത്തിന്റെ ഒന്നാമത്തെ ഹൗസിങ് കോളനി "അശ്വതി ഗാർഡൻസ്" സ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെടുകയും തുടർന്ന്, കാഞ്ഞിരംപാറ, മണലയം, അയണിമൂട് ഒന്നും രണ്ടും, കേളേശ്വരം, കാച്ചാണി, മുടവൻമുകൾ, ശ്രീകാര്യം, തിട്ടമംഗലം, പാച്ചല്ലൂർ-വണ്ടിത്തടം, നാലാഞ്ചിറ, നരുവാംമൂട്, പാപ്പനംകോട്, ഏണിക്കര, വിത്തറക്കോണം എന്നിങ്ങനെ 16 കോളനികൾ കൂടി രൂപം കൊള്ളൂകയും ചെയ്തു. നിലവിൽ 17 കോളനികളിലായി 608 -ൽ പരം പ്ലോട്ടുകൾ.
അംഗങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം നാൾക്കുനാൾ വർദ്ധിച്ചു വന്നു. പ്രതിപ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും, പ്രതിസന്ധികളും സധൈര്യം നേരിട്ട് സാരഥികൾ സംഘത്തെ മുന്നോട്ടു നയിച്ചു. ഇതിനിടയിൽ സെക്രട്ടറിയേറ്റ് അസോസിയേഷൻ മന്ദിരത്തിലെ ഒരു മുറി ഓഫീസ് മുറിയായിത്തീർന്നു. സർക്കാരിൽ നിന്നും ലോണായും, ഓഹരി മൂലധനമായും പലപ്പോഴും ലഭിച്ച സഹായം വളർച്ചയുടെ പ്രയാണത്തിൽ സംഘത്തിന് ഏറെ സഹായകമായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തു.
വികസനപാതയിൽ അനവരതമുള്ള മുന്നേറ്റത്തിനിടയിൽ ഭവനനിർമ്മാണത്തിനുപരി അനുബന്ധ വായ്പകളുടെ ആവശ്യകത കൂടി ഉയർന്നുവരികയും, തുടർന്ന് വീടോടു കൂടി വസ്തു വാങ്ങുന്നതിനും, വസ്തു മാത്രം വാങ്ങുന്നതിനും, സർക്കാരിൽ നിന്നും എടുത്ത ഭവനവായ്പ തികയാതെ വരുമ്പോൾ സെക്കൻഡ് മോർട്ടഗേജ് നടത്തുന്നതിനും, ഗ്രൂപ്പ് ഹൗസിംഗിനും, വീട് ഓടിടുന്നതിനും, ഭവന നിർമ്മാണ സാമഗ്രികൾ വാങ്ങുന്നതിനും തുടങ്ങി വായ്പാ പദ്ധതികളുടെ എണ്ണം നിരവധിയായി വർദ്ധിച്ചു.
ഭവന നിർമ്മാണത്തോടൊപ്പം പ്രാധാന്യം ഭവന സജ്ജീകരണത്തിലും ഉണ്ടെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കിയതിനെത്തുടർന്നായിരുന്നു അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള പദ്ധതികളുടെ ആവിഷ്കരണം. ഫർണിച്ചറും, ഇലക്ട്രോണിക് ഇനത്തിലുള്ള ഗൃഹോപകരണങ്ങളും മറ്റും വാങ്ങുന്നതിനും, ചുറ്റുമതിൽ കെട്ടുന്നതിനും പുതിയ വായ്പാ പദ്ധതികൾ നിലവിൽ വന്നു.
സ്വന്തമായൊരു വീട് എന്ന സ്വപ്നം സഫലമായിക്കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ, സ്വന്തമായി ഒരു വാഹനം എന്ന സഹകാരികളുടെ സ്വപ്നം സാക്ഷാത്ക്കരിക്കുകയെന്ന ഉദ്ദേശത്തോടെയായിരുന്നു വാഹന വായ്പാ പദ്ധതിയുടെ തുടക്കം. രണ്ടുലക്ഷം രൂപവരെ ലഭ്യമാകുന്ന പ്രസ്തുത വായ്പ സംഘത്തിന്റെ പ്രസ്റ്റീജ് പദ്ധതികളിലൊന്നായി മാറുകയും. നിലവിൽ വാഹനവായ്പ 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ വരെയായി ഉയർത്തുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
അടിയന്തരാവശ്യങ്ങൾ നേരിടുന്നതിന് വേണ്ടി ആവിഷ്കരിക്കപ്പെട്ട കണ്ടിജൻസി, ഫെസ്റ്റിവൽ വായ്പ പദ്ധതികൾ, ഉത്സവകാലങ്ങളിൽ ഗൃഹോപകരണങ്ങളും, ഇലക്ട്രോണിക് സാധനങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള കൺസ്യൂമർ ഉത്പന്നങ്ങളും വാങ്ങാവുന്ന പലിശരഹിതവായ്പ പദ്ധതി എന്നിവ സഹകാരികൾക്കിടയിൽ വൻ പ്രചാരം നേടി.
ഇന്ന് 200 കോടിയുടെ ആസ്തി ഉള്ള ഒരു പ്രസ്ഥാനമായി കേരളാ ഗവൺമെന്റ് സെക്രട്ടറിയറ്റ് സ്റ്റാഫ് ഹൗസിംഗ് സഹകരണ സംഘം വളരുകയും, സംഘത്തിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനമേഖല കേരളം മുഴുവൻ വ്യാപ്തിയുള്ളതായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തു. ദൈനംദിന ഇടപാടുകൾ നടത്തുന്നതിന് എസ്.ബി അക്കൗണ്ട് സൗകര്യം നിലവിൽവരുകയും നിലവിൽ വായ്പകൾ സ്വന്തം ഫണ്ടിൽ നിന്നും നൽകി വരികയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. എന്നും എല്ലാത്തിനും താങ്ങും തണലുമായി അംഗങ്ങളായ സെക്രട്ടറിയറ്റ് ജീവനക്കാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. സംഘത്തിനെതിരെ ഉയർന്ന ഒളിയമ്പുകളൊക്കെ സഹകാരികളുടെ സംഘബലം കൊണ്ട് കർമ്മനിരതരായ സാരഥികൾ നേരിട്ടു. ഇന്ന്, ഹൗസിംഗ് സഹകരണ രംഗത്ത് കേരളത്തിലെ ഒന്നാമത്തെ സംഘമായി തലയുയർത്തിനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥാപനം ദേശീയ ഹൗസിംഗ് ഫെഡറേഷന്റെത് ഉൾപ്പെടെ പരക്കെ അംഗീകാരവും, പ്രശംസയും നേടി കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
